Light in darkness
Since evening on November, 29th on December, 7th of this year Jews of the whole world mark a Khanuka. Every evening a holiday we light in the houses of a candle in special hanukalnom the fixture. The hanukalnyj fixture should be put at a window that its light was visible from street. But what for this light to see from street? Street - not Jewish space: after all we do not live for a long time any more in a ghetto. Then hanukalnyj light should shine not only to Jews? But unless this holiday not exclusively our domestic concern? As though answering this question, we set up hanukalnye fixtures on central squares of big cities all over the world. Now this kind custom has come and to Russia.
what message bears hanukalnyj light to all mankind and the separate casual passer-by is perfect irrespective of its national and religious accessory? To answer this question, it is necessary to address to history. In II century BC the governor of Syria Antioh Epifan IV which empire included Judea, has tried to spread violently there ellinizm and to eradicate a Judaism. This idea was unusual to the Ancient world known for the toleration. Judea has been won, paid the put taxes and did not think of independence. However ellinisticheskie aggressors wanted also sovereignty religious, they could not admit that there is a belief assuming a different way of life. At consecration of the temple profaned by aggressors the Jewish priests had a problem. For ignition of the temple fixture - menorahs specially prepared pure olive oil in the vessels sealed by the press of the high priest is necessary. One such vessel oils in which sufficed only for one day of the burning has been found only, all other vessels with oil have been profaned by enemies. For preparation of new oil it would be required eight days. But priests have decided not to wait: they have lighted a menorah. Also there was a miracle: Instead of one day oil burnt eight. In honour of this miracle we in days of a Khanuka light every year candles. On the eve of the first day - one, on the eve of the second - two and so on. On the eve of last day Khanukas we light all eight candles. All - taki it is represented strange enough. The small, badly armed, not trained insurgents have overcome the fine professional army surpassing them in every respect. It would Seem, it should become the basic maintenance of a holiday. But the victory is only mentioned. We arrange not military parade, not demonstration of a celebration of force, are not present; we light small candles in honour of a miracle with oil. Not sword, but light, its constant increase in dark winter nights became the holiday maintenance.
lighting candles, we testify before the whole world that light is invincible that harm can be somehow strong, but it is temporary, it cannot absorb light.
Harm can frighten and collect a bloody harvest during any moments, but it is doomed and unpromising. To the people afflicted with harm, it is necessary to oppose force. But this force should be kind and spiritualised, differently struggling with harm will turn to those doubles with whom they struggle.
lighting hanukalnye candles, we shine with warm light cold winter night. But these small sparks should become a material embodiment of light which we should support and multiply in our souls: after all each of us has enough darkness which should be disseminated. And we are convinced that it is a problem not only Jews, but also all mankind.
