The mayor of Tolyatti is sentenced to a long imprisonment

the Samara regional court has sentenced today the mayor of Tolyatti Nikolay Utkin to 7 years of imprisonment for excess of powers of office and bribe reception in the large size, have informed in a press - service of regional Office of Public Prosecutor.
Besides, the court has forbidden N.Utkin to occupy posts in authorities within two years and has obliged to pay the penalty at a rate of 200 thousand rbl.

The Supreme court of the Russian Federation has stopped criminal prosecution of the mayor of Tolyatti N.Utkin on charge in excess of powers of office, having counted the brought accusation illegal and unreasonable. Thus, the court has satisfied the appeal of protection of the mayor on the decision of the Samara regional court on excitation of criminal case concerning N.Utkin under item 286 (excess of powers of office) Criminal code of the Russian Federation.

according to the investigation, in April 2007. N.Utkin together with the chief of the department of ground resources of the mayoralty Natalia Nemyh, using the office position, demanded from one of heads of the commercial organisation of 150 million rbl. for the right of granting to it in rent under building of a ground by a total area more than 1,5 million in sq. m. In default from bribery officials threatened with adverse consequences, including cancellation before the taken out decisions about allocation to it of the ground areas in rent. Thus N.Utkin and N.Nemyh have demanded, that the first part of a bribe in the sum of 25 million rbl. has been transferred them not later than May, 1st 2007. This day by transfer of the specified sum the intermediary has been detained.
