Japan intends to discuss with Russia return of two Kuriles
Japan studies possibility of the decision of territorial dispute with Russia on the basis of Soviet - the Japanese joint declaration of 1956 which provides returning of Japan only two of four South Kuril islands.
we Will remind, in 9 - j to Declaration article it is told about readiness of Soviet Union after the conclusion of the peace treaty with Japan to pass it an uninhabited ridge of Habomai and small island Shikotan. This gesture of good will Moscow intended to close dispute concerning so-called northern territories.
In 2001 in Irkutsk the president of the Russian Federation of that time Vladimir Putin has confirmed that the Declaration has not become invalid, Japan vosprjala spirit, however progress in negotiations has not been reached.
the Subsequent Japanese governments including present ministry led by Esihiko Nodoj, repeatedly underlined that do not consider such decision of territorial dispute comprehensible. Nevertheless, according to the local mass-media referring to sources in the government, recently the office of Nody has again accepted to consideration possibility of realisation of the Declaration of 1956 in connection with Vladimir Putin`s forthcoming returning to fast of the president of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile in the near future the Japanese prime minister - the minister intends to direct the former head of government Esiro Exhaust to Russia. In a case if the meeting will take place, it, on a plan of Tokyo, becomes the main preparatory step to possible negotiations of prime minister Nori with the president of Russia on fields of the forthcoming summit “ G8 “ which will pass 18 - on May, 19th in Camp - David (USA).
